Free Writing

A simple sharing of a video explaining on the concept of FREE WRITING. Ada saya kongsikan dalam workshop semalam. Maaf ending dgn tergesa2. Join workshops by EYTC to know more.

REMEMBER :
we learn from making mistakes, therefore it is ALRIGHT to make mistakes. Only ALLAH is perfect. Yes we can work towards being perfectionist, but avoid being too stringent that stops your child's interest in learning. This is a SERIOUS matter.

Selamat mencuba!

Think Positive!

Look at it positively. Instead of being negative, cuba untuk fikir positive, comel kan gelagat ini? Apakah yang membuatkannya berbuat demikian?

Bathroom Break

Apa2pun, saya rindukan moment sebegini. Comel bukan?

Sorting Colours #1

Credit to : http://justfordaisy.blogspot.com.au/
Thank you to Cik Atia for highlighting this in particular!
One sharing on how to encourage your child to learn about colours

WHAT?
The skill to know shapes and colours usually heats up at around 18 months. If you are trying to introduce this to your child, introduce them slowly, 1 colour or shape a week or atleast for a few days. And always repeat them. Children might not be able to say out verbally, but you may be surprised that he knows through a number of repetition.

GOOD EXAMPLE (http://www.babycenter.com/):
When you're out and about, play pointing and matching games. Say, "I see a red flower" and wait before pointing to it to see if he points first. If he's wearing a blue shirt, ask him if he sees anything else around him the same color.

Toddlers love looking at picture books of objects organised by shape and color. Start by asking him to identify things non-verbally; say, "Can you show me the red square?" and let him point to it. As he begins to learn the names of the colors, you can reverse the game, pointing to objects yourself and asking, "What color is this triangle?" Either way, he'll delight in showing off his knowledge. When he's wrong, don't correct him (or pretend he's right) but instead say the correct name in an encouraging tone.

Tips:
  1. Make learning fun - use anything you have in your house.
  2. Read to your child daily
  3. Keep at it; repetition is key
  4. Don't compare your child to other kids
  5. Remember that crafts, music, playtime, and even meal time can all present opportunities for teaching your toddler
Hope this helps!! xx

TIPS : Writing Names

Dear Teachers,
How has your first week of school been?
Do you have difficulties with children not knowing how to write their names?
What are your initiatives to help them?
Do you encourage them NICELY? or Do you FORCE them fiercely?

NO NEED TO BE FIERCE! A Preschool Teacher's job is to ASSIST and BE GENTLE. HELP THEM TO LOVE WRITING. And the experience of writing their own names should be an exciting process. MAKE IT FUN!

These are some ways to encourage them to love WRITING, but using NAMES as 1 approach :
  1. Free Writing - based on the LETTER SOUNDS. YOU (teachers) make the letter SOUNDS of the child's first letter in their name. Then the rest is up to them. But YOU have started it correctly
  2. TRACE writing - Do little dots with a marker pen to shape the letter, get the children to trace on them. Refer to image
  3. Use alphabet blocks to form names
  4. Use lego pieces to shape the letter
  5. Use DIY Playdough to shape letters. Or can be anything, and many more creative ideas

REMINDER:
  • Do not get stressed if children does not know how to write names. It is a reminder too for parents to practice at home. Practice does not mean forcing them to copy and write many times. But making learning fun at home, with the same ideas listed above
  • Be GENTLE! Imagine if I ask you to write your name in Japanese letters (when you do not even know Japanese letters) --> DIFFICULT RIGHT? So, the same goes to these children. BE a little bit EMPATHIC!!
I guess, that's all for now. Happy schooling everyone!! xx
